Don’t Let This Oversight Keep You From Excellence

Excellence is something you earn. Do you want to know why some MSPs grow and get rich and some stay broke and struggling?

Don’t let this oversight keep you from excellence… It’s not just marketing. Here’s the real reason that excellent MSPs get rich and the steps you can take to copy them:

See, everybody thinks that the rich get richer because they have some kind of advantage. Either they were born to rich parents, or they took advantage of people. It’s just not true. Number one, if you took all the money away from everybody within a period of time, it would all be back in the same hands.

All the broke would still be broke and all the rich would be rich. Why is that? Because of what they do.

It’s the activities we do every single day that form us into who we are.

It’s not by what we think about, not by what we know is true, not by what we believe, not by what we know to do, not by what we value, not by what we talk about, not by what we read about, but what we will do.

Keep in mind that excellence, success, and failure don’t happen in one day.

Every day you wake up, you are faced with thousands of decisions. What are you going to do? Are you going to be on Facebook or are you going to read a book? Are you going to check email or are you going to send out that prospecting campaign?

You’re faced with tiny decisions every day, but because you believe they’re insignificant, you don’t do them. You must make the right decisions consistently every minute of every day. It’s just like the golf game; it takes a while for it to accumulate over time.

A lot of you are setting yourself up for failure.

For example, if you were going to start a better workout program, you wouldn’t want to come into the gym and work out with me. I’ve been doing this for 30 years and I work out all the time. If you come in, you’ve never lifted weights or done cardio, and you try and do twenty-five burpees straight, you’re going to have a heart attack. You’re going to get injured and then you’re not going to be able to do anything.

So, the best comparison when you’re trying to move towards a goal is defined excellence for you.

In Jordan Peterson’s book, 12 Rules for Life, rule number four is to compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who somebody else is today. If you compare yourself to someone else, you will get discouraged. The fairest person to compare yourself to is you, yesterday. Only you have had all the variables of your life, with your advantages and difficulties. You are in your town, with your people, with your customers, with your skills, with your family, with your health, with your money.

Again, you are the only person you can fairly compare yourself to.

However, if you compare yourself to somebody else, you never get better because you’re comparing yourself to some ideal that’s out there that you can’t do anything about.
