Why Did Your Google Business Profile Get Suspended?

Many users this week are reporting a large wave of Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) suspensions for seemingly mundane actions such as editing any of these fields:

  • Name
  • Primary Category
  • Address
  • Website
  • Phone Number

There are also reports of GBPs being suspended for creating new posts and even for no edits at all.

Additionally, there are wide reports that the reinstatement team at Google is currently overwhelmed by the number of suspensions and it could take as long as 3-4 weeks for suspended profiles to be reinstated.

Local Search Professionals at localsearchforum.com are puzzled and frustrated:

“I’ve got a listing that has been suspended right after verifying it with a code via postcard. This is so frustrating.”

“Is anyone else experiencing an unprecedented amount of GBP suspensions? I had 3 separate profiles suspended after doing a post on the account. Other accounts are getting suspended after making changes to business hours or main categories.”

The cause of the wave of suspensions is unknown, though some users are offering their guesses.

From /u/yangilbertseo on Reddit, “Most likely Google relying more on the AI side of the system to moderate things, which tends to produce more issues until kinks are worked out.”

We recommend not making any changes to your Google Business Profile at this time.
